Training for New ACC Group Leaders Saturday 6/25

City Church groups are a great place to make new friends and grow in our spiritual lives. Leaders and hosts help make that happen. We want to provide many opportunities for our church family to connect, and that means many leaders and hosts!

If you want to investigate how you could be part of the team as a group leader, please join us next Saturday, June 25, at 9 AM-3 PM in the Prayer Room upstairs for a training for new leaders. Lunch is included.

Thursday Nights @ City Church: 51 hours away....

Just 51 hours now to our first Thursday Night @ City Church for 2011! We will start each evening at 6 PM with a potluck dinner. After dinner, we'll move into groups. This year we have these three options:

• Ephesians Bible Teaching with Dr. Jim Strutz
• The Marriage Course led by David & Linda Johnson (pre-registration required)
  
• Paternidad Positiva a 9 week positive parenting workshop in Spanish led by Victor & Carmen Romero
  

Perspectives Discipleship Course

Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is an interdenominational 15 week class about the Christian faith. The course explores four vital world Christian perspectives:

1. Biblical perspective
2. Historical perspective
3. Cultural perspective
4. Strategic perspective

Each perspective takes a unique approach to undertanding God's plan to redeem mankind and your role in His plan. Join the 80,000+ world wide alumni who have experienced God in a fresh way as a result of His hand in this 15 week course. The course costs $200 with registration by 12/31 and $225 thereafter. Not too late for Alpha!

If you missed the first or second sessions of the Alpha class, don't worry....you aren't too late to become part of the group!

We meet at 6:30 PM in the Anchorage City Church auditorium. It's free and childcare is provided (donations are recommended if you are able). Each evening consists of dinner with the same small group, a talk, and small group discussion of the subject. We will meet on Sundays through May 23rd, and there is a Friday evening / Saturday retreat.

This week's talk is "Why Did Jesus Die" with Pastor Shane LaFramboise.

Growing the Kingdom by Cooking?

ALPHA is off to a great start with many participants.....and good food is part of the fun! Want to be part of the team helping cook for some or all of the 10 weeks of the course? You could provide a great service for those drawing closer to Christ. For more information or to join the team, call Linda Johnson 336-8717. Alpha!

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. More than 13 million around the world have been through ALPHA to date. Each session, people enjoy food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile…questions like—Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Each evening consists of dinner, a short talk and small group discussion. It's a perfect way to invite family and friends to learn more about Jesus. Starts Sunday March 14 at 6:30 PM at ACC and runs through May 23. The course is free, but donations are suggested to defray the costs of food and childcare.

The Marriage Course - September 26 @ ACC

Tune up your marriage with The Marriage Course, an eight-week class designed to help you and your spouse take your marriage to the next level. Whether your marriage is doing great or needs real help, this course is for you. Strong marriages will become stronger; marriages in trouble will find practical helps to break out of difficulties. The class starts at 7:00 PM on Saturday evening, September 26 and continues for the next seven Saturdays. The class is only $47.50 per person ($95 for a couple) and that includes dinner each evening. Childcare is available for $15 per child. The class meets at Anchorage City Church, 1301 W 100th Ave. You can find out more about the class on this website and register here.

Hearing the Voice of God - A Workshop and Retreat

Cost

The cost of the workshop is $119 per person. This amount includes a workbook and weekend meals at the retreat center.

Reservations

To reserve your place, send your $25 non-refundable deposit to Anchorage City Church, or register and pay online. The balance is due when the workshop begins.

Most sessions are held in the ACC prayer room. The weekend retreat is at the Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Anchorage. The workshop starts Sunday, November 9 at 2 PM and meets each weekday evening (except Wednesday) and concludes at the retreat location at 2 PM the following Sunday. The workshop consists of almost 40 hours of teaching and activities.

Teaching topics include:

• Biblical foundation for hearing God
• Hindrances to hearing
• Listening in nature
• Dreams and dream interpretation
• Centering prayer/meditation
• God's voice in music and movement
• Journaling/prayer diaries
• Fasting
• God's voice in scripture
• The role of the Holy Spirit
• Sanctified imagination and vision

This is an interactive workshop. Time is devoted to teaching, prayer, personal experiences with God and sharing revelations with the group.

Small Groups officially launch this weekend

Anchorage City Church small groups and classes for Fall 2008 officially launch this Sunday, September 14. During the 10 AM and noon services we will introduce small group leaders and provide an opportunity for you to talk to them about their groups after the worship services.

We'll also be providing our most up-to-date small groups menu. You can download a copy of the Fall small groups menu here.

We have added more small groups and classes since the last blog post....and more are coming in the weeks ahead. But so you can plan your time, we want to provide this information now. We'll have updated lists coming up. This list is divided by group type.

Here is the downloadable/printable list. This will be handed out on Sunday, September 7 at both ACC services.

The Bible in 90 Days

The Bible in 90 Days is designed to give you the tools to read, ATTENTIVELY, every word of the Bible in just three months.

When taking the course, each participant reads 12 pages a day in your Bible, then gathers with fellow participants once a week. The weekly class meetings provide insight, accountability, fellowship and encouragement. The class is just 60 minutes.

A typical class meeting includes:

• a small group discussion of last week’s reading,
• a videotaped lesson (about 25 minutes),
  
• and a short discussion of the videotaped lesson
  

This class starts on September 7 at 9 AM in Room 209 (upstairs) at Anchorage City Church and continues every Sunday through December 7. When you are done, you will have read every Word!

Build Your Marriage This Fall

Build up your marriage this fall with The Marriage Course, an eight-week class that will give your marriage new directions.

The Monday evening course starts on September 22 at 7 PM each evening and combines good teaching, humor, a special dessert, and exercises to strengthen what you are learning. There is no requirement to share with anyone other than your spouse.
