Unusually Important Churchwide Fast Oct 12 – 19

This is a sobering time we live in, a season to be prayerful and watchful of what the Lord is saying. As a church we hold a week long fast tri-yearly. Through fasting we disrupt our regular routines, sacrifice through self-denial and we purpose to pray over the things that are important to God. We will list the specific prayer points that we are focusing on to keep on hand as you are fasting. Thank you for joining us in this special time of hearing from God and declaring that we are not of this world, even while we are still in this world!

Here is what you can do:
  • Choose the method of fasting that you can commit to and then stick with it!
  • Join with us at the church building each evening, Mon - Sat, from 5:30PM to 7PM for prayer. We will be meeting nightly in the prayer room
  • Break our fast together on Sunday the 19th after the second service with soup and salads. If you would like specific instruction on what you can bring, go by your last name! If it ends in A-L bring a soup. If it ends in M-S bring a salad or Bread. If it ends in a T-Z please bring a side dish or a dessert. The church will provide the drinks and utensils.
  • PLEASE Bring Food to donate to the Food Shelf!

Prayer Focus - Preparation for coming season

1. Our Nation
* The elections
* Economy
2. Our Church
* Direction and wisdom for ministry expansion
* Release of miracles
* Financial Provision

From the Pastor's Heart

Dear Family,

Be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you. 1 Sam.12:24

First of all, 1 want to say thank you to Jesus for the way He continues to provide and guide us as we move forward in faith towards God's purposes as a congregation.
In the past we have used what is called "From the Pastors Heart" as a written communication tool to keep the congregation apprised of what is happening at City Church. I am reviving that method of communication because 1 will be gone for a few weeks on a motorcycle trip, to Milwaukee, Wis. and then to Seattle. I would appreciate your prayers.

There is a noticeable increase in attendance in our weekend services. Some of the increase is part of the Vineyard Church integration and others have chosen to come at "coincidently" the same time. We are honored that all of you have made thechoice to be at City Church. We believe that God has great blessings in store for all of us as we work together with one heart, one mind and one purpose.

In the past few years we have made a concerted effort to engage in ministry beyond the four walls of the City Church building. While our Special Event efforts continue to bear fruit, we continually emphasize and encourage all of you to be people of influence wherever God has placed you; in your family, neighborhood, school, marketplace, recreation, etc. With that in mind, we are praying and listening for God's direction in the expansion of all ministries. During our church-wide fast, in January, the Lord spoke one word to me, "decentralize." The definition of that word is to reorganize by distributing authority to smaller local units.

Anchorage Vineyard Church Merging With ACC!

On June 15, 2008, Anchorage Vineyard Christian Fellowship is merging with Anchorage City Church. Both congregations will begin meeting at ACC starting on that date. We at ACC are excited to welcome our brothers and sisters from the Vineyard!

Senior Pastor Richard Irwin will lead the combined churches. Pastors Roger and Pam Schoeniger will come on staff at ACC and will continue to serve in the newly united ministry in those areas of their passion and gifting. Other staff and ministry leaders will also be integrated into the combined fellowship.

Pastor Irwin has written a congregational letter about this exciting development and you can read about it online here. You will also be able to listen to Pastor Irwin's message on this via the web or iTunes by May 30th.

There will be a Q&A meeting about the integration on May 29 during the regular Thursday evening service at ACC.

Tell Us About Yourselves!

In a big church like ACC, it's great to have a church directory to be able to locate people. It's been awhile since we published the last edition, so we're working on a new one. Also, we have improved our systems for storing vital information about families and individuals within the church, and we are working to update that.

We have designed an ACC Life Information Survey to provide all kinds of important information about yourself. Even if you don't want to appear in the directory (there is a way to "opt out") we would like to have some basic information about you.

We will have copies of this survey available at the church all during June, and we expect to have our new directory ready in early July. If you want to get a jump on it, you can download and print out the forms and drop them off at the church on Sunday. Already filled it out at an ACC activity or class? You're good to go; no need to fill it out again...thanks!

MasterCard and Visa now accepted at City Church

You can use your Visa or Mastercard to purchase items at the information counter. Unfortunately, this excludes some CD and video purchases. Those items can still be purchased by cash or check.

Mrs. Alaska 2008!

Hello, this is Aaron Gray, worship pastor here at City Church. I am very pleased to inform you of an exciting development in the Gray family as well as the City Church community. This past Saturday, April 26th, my wife of 7 years, Erin Lynn, was crowned as Mrs. Alaska 2008 in the Mrs. United States pageant system. Our whole family is extremely proud of her and excited for the opportunities that this will bring for her.

Please keep her and our family in your prayers as we prepare for the Mrs. United States national competition this upcoming July. I know that my wife is very excited to represent not only herself and other married women, but specifically Anchorage City Church. We absolutely love our church family and are so proud to be a part of such a wonderful community.

Springfest and Bike Blessing Still On but Note Changes

Despite the impressive snowfall on Friday, April 25, Springfest (Friday evening) and the Bike Blessing (Saturday morning) will go on.

There are no changes to the plans for Springfest, but we do recommend allowing extra travel time because of the slushy roads. Starts at 6pm and goes to midnight. $10 cover charge. 8 artists and 6 bands, 3 stages.

The Bike Blessing is still on for Saturday morning but with some changes. We expect the roads to be un-ridable by motorcycle, but we’re encouraging people to attend the event portion that will be indoors and consider it a kickoff for the motorcycle season, enjoying the live band, food vendors and proclamations by Governor Palin and Senator Murkowski and a prayer blessing. It all starts at 10am and goes until 1pm, with the program beginning at 11am.

Part 2 is next weekend’s event by ABATE of Alaska, called the Gathering at the Downtown Park Strip on May 3rd. Bikers can meet at City Church at 10am to line up for the group parade to the park strip for the Mayoral proclamation for Motorcycle Awareness month and there will be a blessing of the bikes there as well. Have fun and be safe!

Speakers:

Randy Clark

On January 20, 1994, this unassuming pastor from St. Louis walked into a small storefront church near the Toronto airport. Originally scheduled for 4 days, his meetings have turned into a worldwide revival that has impacted millions of people in what has become known as the “Toronto Blessing.” Randy was utterly surprised when God began to use him in a powerful healing ministry. What amazed him even more, however, was the fact that the people he touched through the laying on of hands ended up doing even more astonishing things! Now an international speaker, Randy demonstrates the Lord’s sovereign power to heal, with great tenacity. Randy’s anointing in healing is only surpassed by his unmistakable teaching gift. His message is simple: “God wants to use you.”
Randy has been welcomed into a plethora of different streams. He has traveled to over 36 countries and continues to travel extensively to see that God’s mandate on his life be fulfilled.

Art Mathias
Art Mathias is the founder of Wellspring Ministries, a non-profit organization focused on bringing healing to broken heats and bodies through powerful seminars. Art has earned masters and doctorate degrees in counseling. He travels extensively teaching and demonstrating a powerful God that has answers. By applying scriptural principals in his own life, Art received physical healing for over 100 allergens and neuropathies. Art removed from his life years of bitterness and anger he had from his past. During this process, he experienced miraculous healing of a major medical condition that had mystified some of the best medical doctors in the world. Art brings new revelation on biblical truths regarding the relationship between sin and disease, forgiveness, and the spiritual roots of sickness. Art’s passion is to see others experience the same freedom and healing that God worked in his life and teach people how to minister that healing to others.

Bill Johnson

Bill Johnson is one of the most prolific teachers in the Body of Christ today. Through his powerful teachings, he is molding an entire generation of believers. His revelatory messages illuminate the hearts and minds of believers, and inspire the hearer to invade Earth with heaven’s realities. He is a fifth generation preacher whose influences can be traced back to such renowned ministers as Smith Wiggelsworth and Aimee Semple McPherson. He leads a dynamic church in Redding, CA , known for healings, signs and wonders.
